About Krups

Krups is a private manufacturer of kitchen appliances. It is a Germany-based company that began operation way back in 1846 when they could make scales. So far, it has branches across many countries.

Over time, they have grown to be the best makers for most electronic appliances used across countries. If their appliances are not busy heating water in our homes, then they could be toasting bread, grinding coffee or spices, or better still, blending that delicious smoothie.

For this article, we are going to focus on the grinding aspect of their products. We will look at coffee and spices grinders, to be specific.  Let’s get started.

Quick one: Should you Have a Grinder to Make the Best Coffee?

Coffee grinders

From the traditional mortar and pestle pounding of beans into a fine powder to the wonderful invention of these burr grinders, there are so many ways you can turn your beans into a beverage.

Some common ways of grinding coffee beans include

  • Pounding using mortar and pestle
  • Grinding using a blender or a food processor
  • Using a meat tenderizer to hit them under a sealed paper cloth
  • Pressing them on a flat surface using a flat plate or the wider side of a knife

The above methods do not result in fine coffee as a coffee grinder does. The closest to fresh coffee from the methods is by using mortar and pestle.  This method, however, is time-consuming and needs extra patience and muscle tone. But again, the end always justifies the means, right?

There are two grinders that we are going to cover in this article. Those are the Krups coffee grinder F203 and the Krups coffee grinder gX500050. Shall we begin?

Krups Coffee Grinder F203

The most suitable description for this kitchen gadget is small and powerful. Anybody who thinks the Krups coffee grinder takes much of his kitchen counter does not deserve their morning coffee.

This is one of the most efficient bean grinder Krups ever put in place. Let’s sing some of its praises below.

Size and Appearance

Like I have mentioned, its performance outdoes its size. It has an inbuilt 200- watt motor that enhances its performance by giving it the speed to hurry your morning cup. The inside blades are also small but powerful. They are two and rotate fast to give you your coffee on time.

The grinder is black with stainless steel blades. It has an oval opening that makes emptying of the coffee chambers easy.  The lid is hard transparent plastic. You can watch as the blades continuously work on your beans.

Functionality

This java grinder is suitable for any coffee you want to make. It is not picky. Whether you want espresso or drip coffee, the grinder will work. All you need is patience. When you load your beans into the grinder, the time used for grinding will determine how fine or bitter your coffee gets.

For example, if you want to make a coffee drip, you just hold the grinder for a few seconds. For the fine espresso-like grind, you need to hold the grinder a bit longer than a minute. The time will ensure all the beans are finely ground.

The lead forms part of the start button. All you need to do is align the lead to the container, press down, and hold. That location makes the grinder easy to operate, as you will use one hand to do both the switching on and holding down.

The blender is multifunctional. You can use it for your hard spices and nuts. For instance, it will grind your cinnamon so well.

Cleaning

The one issue with this appliance is that some ground coffee sticks beneath the blades. Also, the motor is hard to clean with water because the power cable attaches to it. Some users advise using paper towels or bread to clean it off coffee particles and using a spoon to scoop the trapped coffee.

For the lid, cleaning with some lukewarm soapy water will suffice. For the outer side of the motor, just wipe with a damp cloth.

Always keep your grinder away from dust. And try to use a separate grinder for your spices.  Using a separate grinder will prevent your coffee from having mixed tastes.

Grind

The type of coffee you want to make will determine the fineness or coarseness of your grind. If you want a fine grind, please hold on much longer. The f203 does not have any coarse adjustment knobs, so you will rely on your intuition here.

But there is something for everyone with this grinder. Don’t worry.

Noise

Like any other machine out there, this one, too, is noisy. Okay, you can speak over it, but you have to be shouting a little for someone to hear you.

FAQs

HOW STABLE IS THE GRINDER AS IT GRINDS?

Well, if you are afraid of your coffee spilling, fret not. With its lid activated switch, this will not happen. Remember, you also have to support the lid as it grinds to avoid messy grinding.

WHAT IS THE APPROPRIATE CARE FOR THE CORD?

Don’t immerse the cord in water. Also, when done, wrap the cord around the gadget before you store it.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CLEAN THE GRINDER?

It is relatively easy to clean.  Since the grinding chamber attaches to the motor, just use a piece of wet cloth to wipe it. The lid, however, can be washed just like any other utensil.

Krups Coffee Grinder gx500050 Black Metal

If size matters, then this is the best burr grinder for your liking.  This item weighs 3.2 pounds, has a flat metal grinding burr, and has a hopper, and a coffee holding chamber.

Its capacity is 8 oz, unlike the f203 grinder that can only hold up to 3 oz coffee. This Krups coffee grinder has a 110 watts motor that powers its grinding. Here is all about it:

Size and Appearance

Of course, this is bigger than the Krups f203. Even so, it won’t take up much of your counter space. Some kitchen appliances are quite bigger than it. Take the microwave or toaster, for example.

It is black, with transparent materials for the hopper and the holding chamber. Compared to the first grinder, this one has an adjusting knob.

The gX500050 grinder has a separate power button in the front. The switch is not attached to the lid like for the coffee and spices grinder. You, however, need to align the lead properly for the grinder to work.

Functionality

This Krups coffee grinder has more functionality settings compared to the Krups f203. For instance, it has a capacity of up to 8 oz, which can produce anything from 2 to 12 cups of coffee per grind.

On production, it has a superb quantity selector to allow you to decide just how many cups of coffee you need to grind. Also, it has a fine and coarse knob with a fine-tuning button to help you make the exact brew you want. For example, if you want an espresso, you go for level 1, which is the finest.

For safety, the burr has a system that prevents it from overheating. The same system also locks in flavor and aroma, so you always have the freshest coffee.

Once you load beans into the hopper and set the number of cups you need, the grinder will produce exactly that.  For example, if you want 3 cups, it will stop grinding the beans once it attains enough coffee for 3 cups. The rest will stay in the hopper for the next time.

The dispenser is on the front part of the coffee machine, and it is easy to pull out and push back in. The hopper also has a mark showing the maximum beans you can load per grind.

It is also stable enough and does not move when grinding. You don’t have to support it by pressing it down.

On speed, the grinder can produce a coarse grind for drip coffee in a matter of seconds, and a fine grind in less than two minutes.

 Cleaning

The grinder system can make it have a lot of static. The good thing is that the dispenser, where a lot of coffee goes, is plastic. A material that is easy to clean.

For the hopper, there is a removable mid part. You simply have to twist it and pull it out. Attached to the mid-part is a small hard brush for cleaning inside the hopper. You can clean the grinder with a damp cloth.

Like other appliances, you should not put the cord and motor in water.

 Grind

This Krups coffee grinder has an adjustment knob with nine levels. Compared to the f203 grinder, where you hold for long to get the desired grind, here, you set what you want. From level 1 which is the finest grind to level 9 which is a coarse grind.

Therefore, it is suitable for an array of coffee styles. Whichever you want to make, this grinder got you.

Noise

Powered by a 110 watts motor, you expect it to be a bit louder. There is some sound when grinding, but I assure you it is not the industry- deafening type of noise. You can use your normal voice to communicate as it grinds.

If you compare it to the first grinder, I’d say this is less noisy. Again, noise depends on the coarse settings. For a very fine grind, the noise will be less compared to that from a coarse grind.

FAQs

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR A FINE GRIND?

If you want to make a latte of espresso, the Krups coffee grinder will only take a minute and a half to grind you the finest coffee. For this, you need to set your fine level to 1.

CAN I USE IF TO GRIND ANYTHING ELSE?

Well, the burrs can grind almost anything, but the intended purpose is to grind coffee. Again, using this grinder for other aromatic spices will alter the taste and smell of your coffee. We advise you just use it for coffee and forget other DIY grinders you can make of it.

CAN IT WORK WITHOUT THE LID?

NO. The appliance won’t start if any of the lids are open or missing. That is just how it is.

Krups f203 Coffee and Spice Grinder vs. Krups gx500050 Coffee Burr Grinder.

Verdict

If you love your coffee in different styles, then I would advise you to go for the Krups coffee grinder gx500050. It will allow you to choose a specific grind texture that you want. This is unlike the Krups coffee grinder f203 where you rely on your gut feeling to know if the beans are fine enough.

If you are on a fixed budget but still looking for something classy to use for your morning coffee, the f203 coffee and spice grinder is the deal. It may not give you finer coffee like the gx500050, but still, it is better than using any pestle and mortar.

Looking for high efficiency? The gx500050 Krups coffee grinder only grinds what you need in your cup. If you want a single cup, it mills that and leaves the rest in the hopper. With this, you have fresh coffee each morning. The f203 grinder, on the other hand, grinds everything you put inside because the hopper serves as the dispenser.

Running late with the family dinner? Well, you can put some spices to grind in the f203 coffee and spice grinder. If you are shopping for a multifunctional grinder, this is it.

Final Thoughts

Always ensure you check with the operating manual in case of any problem. There are some troubleshooting tips that you can perform before taking a jammed machine to the repair shop. For example, a grinder may not work if the lid is open. You may think you jam your appliance, but all you have to do is close the lid, and it works.

Again, do not immerse the motor in water. For cleaning, just use a damp soapy cloth.
